A Renewable Natural Gas installation was realised for a waste management organisation for several municipalities in the north of Belgium. This is Bright Biomethane’s first project in Belgium and also the first RNG plant in the country.

The RNG system uses membrane technology to upgrade the biogas to 56 SCFM of RNG (91 Nm3/hr biomethane), equivalent to the annual natural gas consumption of 350 households. The biogas is produced from the anaerobic digestion of garden, fruit and vegetable waste (GFV) from more than half million residents of the Kempen area.

The upgrading system is easily expandable, ensuring that enough RNG is produced in the future to provide gas for around 1,000 families. Instead of 56 SCFM (91 Nm³/hr) low-calorific RNG (L-gas), 150 SCFM (242 Nm³/hr) high-calorific RNG (H-gas) will be produced in the near future.
