Äänekoski, Finland

This biogas upgrading installation in Äänekoski in central Finland is placed at a ‘new generation’ bioproduct mill built by a Finnish bioproducts manufacturer. The biogas is produced from forest and pulp based slurries.

The installation upgrades the 155 SCFM of biogas (250 Nm³/hr raw biogas) to 93 SCFM of RNG (150 Nm³/hr biomethane), which can be easily extended to 218 SCFM of biogas (350 Nm³/hr raw biogas) and 130 SCFM of RNG (210 Nm³/hr biomethane). The produced RNG, also known as green gas, is used for a CNG filling station that is going to be built along the main road. The gaseous CO2 from the upgrading will be used for the neighbouring paper mill which produces approximately 1.3 million tonnes of pulp annually.
